Starting Tuesday, 13th Court of Appeals Justice Rudy Delgado will sit on the opposite side of a courtroom than normal—as a criminal defendant—watching his attorneys choose 12 men and women to decide his fate in a federal trial on bribery-related charges.

The government has alleged that Delgado, formerly the judge of Hidalgo County’s 93rd District Court, took bribes from a lawyer in exchange for issuing favorable rulings for the attorney’s clients. Delgado has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, obstruction of justice, three counts of federal program bribery, and three counts of travel act violations.
