King & Spalding has raided Reed Smith‘s Houston office, hiring away a trio of finance partners.

Carol Burke, Susan Berry and Kimberlee “Kim” Cagle joined King & Spalding last week as partners in the firm’s corporate, finance and investments practice group. They handle complex finance matters, including oil and gas financings, project financings, real estate acquisition development financings and corporate matters.

Tracie Renfroe, managing partner of King & Spalding’s Houston office and co-head of the energy practice, said the three lawyers are an impressive team that will help build the firm’s transactional strength in Houston.

“We were excited about the opportunities here to join a robust corporate and energy group. And they were lacking the finance in Houston, Burke said. “They have a really amazing impressive group of finance lawyers across the U.S.”

Burke said she and Berry have practiced together for 13 years, and Cagle joined them at Reed Smith in early 2015. Burke said they could not pass up the opportunity to practice with King & Spalding’s strong Houston team, including a six-lawyer energy group from Andrew Kurth Kenyon and Bracewell that joined the office in early 2017.

Cagle said the move to King & Spalding will help them better serve their clients. The lawyers declined to identify clients they brought with them in the move.

Atlanta-based King & Spalding has more than 80 lawyers in Houston.
