During the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Reed Smith’s Michael Scott read in his local newspaper about convention protestors successfully demanding the city take down the Mississippi flag from a display of state flags. He had no idea then that this flag, depicting the Confederate battle emblem, soon would consume part of his practice and lead him to the U.S. Supreme Court.
