Uber customers who claim the company charged them unnecessary fees for travel in East Boston, and for transportation to and from Logan Airport will have their claims play out in court after a federal appellate court undid a ruling compelling arbitration.

Although Uber Technologies Inc.’s user agreement requires customers to resolve any disputes with the company through binding arbitration, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit on Monday found that passengers who signed up for the service via its mobile app hadn’t received a “reasonably conspicuous notice” of Uber’s terms as required under Massachusetts law to make the agreement to arbitrate claims credible.
