A state representative seeks to extend the statute of limitations for submitting claims to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, allow victims to seek punitive damages in workplace discrimination cases and collect attorney fees from defendants.

State Rep. Margo L. Davidson, D-Delaware County, submitted a memorandum stating her intent to extend the statute of limitations on complaints submitted to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission from 180 days to two years. Davidson also said her bill would grant complaint filers the option to a trial by jury. Victims could also seek punitive damages in workplace discrimination cases in her proposed legislation. Victims who are victorious in their case could also collect attorney fees from defendants, according to Davidson’s memo.
