Offit Kurman Grows in Wilmington With Cooch and Taylor Trio

Baltimore-based Offit Kurman is expanding its outpost in Wilmington with three labor and employment lawyers from Cooch and Taylor.

Offit Kurman has hired Kevin Fasic and Katherine Witherspoon as partners and state Sen. Anthony Delcollo, R-Marshallton, as an associate. Effective Aug. 1 they will join partner Frank Noyes, who splits his time between Philadelphia and Wilmington. Noyes had an office in Wilmington, but the firm has now expanded its space within the same building.

They became connected with Offit Kurman through partner Joshua Quinter, who works in the <a href="http://www.thelegalintelligencer.com/id=1202776086522">Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, office</a>, said firm chairman Ted Offit. "We've kind of done what we can do in the confines of where we are," Fasic said. "Having more resources, more opportunities for collaboration with people who do what we do, I think that's an attractive thing for all of us really." Offit said the trio fits squarely into Offit Kurman's regional strategy. The 30-year-old firm has been focused on <a href="http://www.thelegalintelligencer.com/id=1202770089249">expansion in the Philadelphia</a> area, he said, and has long sought a group in Delaware to augment that growth. The Cooch and Taylor group was attractive for its local client base and reputation in the community, Offit said, also pointing to Delcollo's role in state government. Many of Offit Kurman's clients are middle-market businesses. Fasic said his group's clients are much the same, even though much of the legal work in Delaware involves large companies incorporated there. Major business litigation, intellectual property cases and bankruptcies "drag in a significant number of small and midsize companies," he said "I'm excited to tap the regional resources of the firm," said Witherspoon, particularly the personnel. "We want to be more influential, we want to get more clients." Fasic and Witherspoon said they have already noticed the benefits of a regional presence when it comes to referrals in neighboring states. And Offit Kurman's pricing model allows them to be competitive against the major Delaware firms, they said. "That's going to make us a very competitive alternative ... for people who want to do work here in Delaware without paying $1,000 an hour," Fasic said. Offit said the firm plans to continue adding lawyers in Delaware, particularly in business, transactions and real estate. Those additions will help to round out the firm's presence in the Philadelphia area, allowing it to move next into southern New Jersey and New York. Offit Kurman now has nearly 140 lawyers. Offit has said the firm aims to have 200 lawyers by 2020. It added a suburban Philadelphia office in Plymouth Meeting earlier this year, and plans to move into permanent space there in August, after <a href="http://www.offitkurman.com/publication/offit-kurmans-ranks-grow-to-136-with-recent-attorney-affiliations-in-maryland-virginia-and-pennsylvania/"> adding two more lawyers</a> to the office last month. </div> </div> <
