Citing freedom of speech and of the press, attorneys for right-wing radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones have filed a motion to dismiss two lawsuits filed on behalf of several Sandy Hook families.

In two separate suits that attorneys for the families said will be consolidated, the families allege that Jones spewed hateful comments on his show regarding whether the December 2012 Sandy Hook massacre ever took place. In addition, the claims state he allowed others on his show to advance the false theory of the shootings being a hoax. The lawsuits seek unspecified monetary damages and demand jury trials in Connecticut. Twenty schoolchildren and six educators were killed by Adam Lanza, who opened fire at the school with an AR-15 rifle.
