Claiming the new $10,000 cap on the federal tax deduction for state and local taxes, referred to as SALT, hurts taxpayers, Connecticut has joined three other northeastern states in an effort to invalidate the cap.

In the 141-page federal lawsuit filed Tuesday morning in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Connecticut is joined by New York, Maryland and New Jersey in opposing the cap. Named as defendants are Steven Mnuchin, in his official capacity as secretary of the U.S. Department of Treasury; the Department of Treasury; David Kautter, in his official capacity as acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service; the IRS; and the U.S. government.
