The U.S. Department of Justice’s move in late November to block AT&T Inc.’s deal with Time Warner Inc. marked the agency’s first attempt in at least four decades to block a vertical merger. It’s also raised questions about whether President Donald Trump’s animosity toward Time Warner-owned CNN factored into the DOJ’s decision.

Whether the president’s personal feelings actually played a role in attempting to block the deal,  antitrust attorneys told Corporate Counsel that the DOJ’s actions could signal a change that may mean companies and their in-house counsel have to reconsider how they handle mergers and acquisitions going forward.
