SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge on Wednesday denied Uber’s attempt to stay the trade secrets case brought against it by Google’s driverless car division, keeping the litigation speeding toward an Oct. 2 trial date.

In a ruling from the bench, U.S. District Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California said the law weighs against granting a stay of Waymo’s case against Uber Technologies Inc., which alleges that Uber is using technology stolen by former Waymo engineer Anthony Levandowski.
