Walmart was swarmed with consumer class actions in federal courts last week. At least three class actions were filed, two of which pursue false advertising claims: A California suit alleges that Walmart's Hotel Style bedding products have a lower thread count than advertised, while a Florida suit against Walmart and ScottsMiracle-Gro claims that Orthene fire ant killer does not contain enough product to treat 162 mounds as stated on the packaging. Plus, a South Carolina class action contends that acne treatment products sold under Walmart's private label Equate contain dangerous levels of benzoyl peroxide or 'BPO,' which degrades over time into the carcinogenic compound benzene; Law.com Radar detected similar cases last week targeting Clearasil, Clinique, Proactiv and Up & Up.
