Tom Girardi could get a "second bite" at determining whether he is mentally competent to stand trial on criminal charges after his lawyer in Illinois asked U.S. District Judge Mary Rowland on Feb. 2 to conduct her own examination. On Jan. 2, a federal judge who is overseeing a May 21 criminal trial against Girardi in Los Angeles found he was mentally competent. A 2025 trial in Chicago will be against two other defendants: Christopher Kamon and David Lira.
