In a 4-3 decision, the Connecticut Supreme Court declined to broaden the meaning of "supervisor" in the context of hostile work environment claims, which the dissenters claim will lead to employers escaping liability. The high court adopted the definition of "supervisor" found in "Vance v. Ball State University," a 2013 U.S. Supreme Court case. The "Vance" decision held that a supervisor is an employee who can hire, fire, decline to promote, reassign or decide to substantially change benefits.
