Who Got The Work
Rebecca Sha and Dan Zimmerman of Phelps Dunbar have stepped in as defense counsel to Orleans Parish School Board in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint, filed June 24 in Louisiana Middle District Court by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, seeks to declare that the states House Bill No. 71, Act 676, which requires public schools to post a state-approved version of the Ten Commandments in every classroom, is unconstitutional. The suit is also backed by ACLU of Louisiana; Americans United for Separation of Church and State; and Freedom From Religion Foundation. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles, is 3:24-cv-00517, Roake et al v. Brumley et al.
