New Suit - Wrongful Death

The National Collegiate Athletic Association was slapped with a wrongful death lawsuit on March 18 in Indiana Southern District Court in connection with the organizations alleged failures to combat the debilitating long-term dangers surrounding concussion-related injuries. The suit was brought by Raizner Slania LLP and Edelson PC on behalf of the son of a former Pepperdine University and Cal State Long Beach college football player who was posthumously diagnosed with Stage II Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and Lewy Body dementia, both of which can be 'attributed to his many years of football participation.' The suit contends that during the time that the decedent played college football, in the 1960's, there were no adequate concussion management protocols or policies in place to address or treat such issues; denying players with appropriate medical attention that would aid in monitoring, managing and mitigating the risks associated with traumatic brain injuries. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 1:24-cv-00498, Riedy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association.
