New Suit - Civil Rights

Courthouse News Service filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on March 13 in District of Columbia District Court. The suit accuses the defendant of blocking access to electronically-filed complaints until after they've been administratively processed by court staff, a process which generally takes one to three days. According to the complaint, the 'no-access-before-processing' policy violates the plaintiff's First Amendment right of access to new civil complaints. The suit was filed by Davis Wright Tremaine and Thomas & LoCicero. The case is 1:24-cv-00726, Courthouse News Service v. Dempson.
