New Suit - Defamation

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, sued ex-Overstock CEO Patrick M. Byrne on Nov. 8 in California Central District Court in relation to alleged defamatory statements. According to the complaint, Byrne claimed that the plaintiff 'was reaching out to the Iranian government in the fall of 2021' to 'unfreeze' $8 billion in Iranian funds 'in return for $800 million being funneled into a numbered account for [the Bidens].' The plaintiff argues that Byrne also reposted false statements that the plaintiff has had treasonous dealings with Iran, including that the plaintiff's alleged criminal dealings with Iran had contributed to the terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel. The complaint was filed by Winston & Strawn and Early, Sullivan, Wright, Gizer & McRae. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 2:23-cv-09430, Biden v. Byrne.
