From extra bonus pay to free dog walking services, midsize firms are using a variety of methods to compete for talent without matching the latest wage scale increases by the nation's largest firms. In December, more than 50 firms had confirmed matching New York firm Milbank's salary scale beginning at $225,000 for first-year associates, according to firm announcements obtained by Law.com or posted on AbovetheLaw.com. Most have profits per partner of $2 million or above, and a few had at least $1 billion in revenue last year.
