In 2018, Gordon Goodman earned the distinction of defeating Jane Bland in the general election for First District Court of Appeals, Place 2, a seat she has held since she was first appointed there in 2003 by then-governor Rick Perry. Bland was then appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Governor Greg Abbott and Goodman is now facing a challenge in the Democratic primary from Houston commercial law attorney Brendetta Scott.
