Jeffrey Willis of Snell & Wilmer has entered an appearance for Microsoft in a pending patent infringement lawsuit. The case was filed Nov. 15 in Arizona District Court by McKool Smith and Farhang & Medcoff on behalf of Language Technologies Inc. The suit, which highlights the plaintiff's ReadSmart technology, contends that Microsoft's use of its 'Bling FIRE' tokenizer in Bing search and other Microsoft natural language processing products and services intentionally violates the plaintiff's two asserted patents related to computerized methods and systems for predicting phrase boundaries in a body of text. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins, is 4:23-cv-00520, Language Technologies Incorporated v. Microsoft Corporation.
