Encompass Health and other defendants were hit with a lawsuit on March 11 in Kentucky Circuit Court for Fayette County for liability claims arising from an alleged 'mock shooter drill.' The court action was brought by the Law Office of Robyn Smith and Godfrey Law Office on behalf of a nurse who contends that she was surprised by the drill, which she and many others had assumed was authentic as a man approached with an assault rifle. The plaintiff alleges that she also heard gunfire and was traumatized by the experience, stating that she, other staff and residents hid and contacted loved ones until a member of staff emerged and revealed that it was only a drill. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 24-CI-00978, Kyle v Encompass Health Corporation.
