A South Korea-based auto parts manufacturer supplying fuel pumps to Hyundai Motor Co. was unable to persuade a court of appeals it should not be under Texas jurisdiction in a personal liability suit. Hyundam Industrial Co. Ltd., one of three defendants being sued by the Estate of Johari Kibibi Powell and her three minor children, tried to avoid litigating the case in Texas, claiming in its second amended special appearance that it was based in Asan, South Korea, had no offices, officers or manufacturing facilities or customers in Texas. Hyundam admitted it designed and made the fuel pump whose alleged failure is claimed to be the cause of Powell's injuries, but argued fuel pumps were delivered to Donghee Industries Co., a fuel tank system manufacturer, and in turn Donghee sold and delivered the systems to Hyundai.
