Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney has unanimously elected Pittsburgh-based bankruptcy and real estate practice chair James Newell as the firm's next CEO, taking over from current CEO and Philadelphia office manager Joseph Dougherty this May. Under Dougherty's leadership, the firm navigated COVID-19, brought on its first Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, launched digital solutions center BuchananInnovate and its proprietary AI tool BuchananArtifex, and merged with IP boutique RatnerPrestia. The firm announced earlier last year that it had brought on a new chief financial officer from Paul Hastings, Kathleen Deuschle, and a new chief business development officer, Elizabeth Lockett.
