A New Jersey appeals court has ruled that former New Jersey state Sen. Wayne Bryant’s 2008 conviction on corruption charges provides sufficient grounds to withhold his $81,000 state pension.
The appeals court affirmed a June 2016 final agency decision by the board of trustees of the Public Employees’ Retirement System to eliminate service and salary credits due Bryant, who served as a Camden County Democrat, making him ineligible for a pension. The PERS board ruling, in turn, affirmed a 46-page decision issued in May 2016 by an administrative law judge who determined that Bryant’s misconduct made him ineligible for pension benefits.
