One benefit to sifting through the data in the Law Journal‘s New Jersey Legal Almanac is that we can monitor the resiliency of the state’s legal profession from many angles. And, despite the ups and downs that are the new normal, the profession has proved to be generally resilient, if cautious.

This 10th edition of the Almanac shows the number of firms with 20 or more attorneys at 113, close to last year’s 115. They employed 6,514 attorneys, 71 fewer than last year. But the changes were mainly incremental. Thirty-four firms lost lawyers, mostly five or fewer; 47 gained lawyers, again mostly fewer than five, and 32 had no change. The number of firms has remained relatively stable for five years.
