While the global and U.S. mergers and acquisitions markets appear to have stayed, if not record-breaking, quite strong in 2016, deals involving New Jersey companies took a steep drop in average value compared with 2015.

According to data provided by Thomson Reuters Financial, the 30 highest-value deals last year involving a New Jersey-based target or acquirer totaled $38.88 billion—only slightly more than one-tenth of the 2015 total of $336.7 billion.
