Profile: Buchan represents employers and management against single plaintiff, multiplaintiff and class actions brought under state and federal antidiscrimination, retaliation and wage-and-hour laws. She also drafts and assists in the development and implementation of employment policies and contracts, compensation plans and reductions-in-force, and advises employers and management on a wide range of employment issues. Buchan’s commitment to the practice of law in New Jersey is unparalleled. She has in-depth knowledge of, and experience in, New Jersey state and federal employment laws and civil practice. Buchan obtains successful results for her clients in a variety of New Jersey legal forums. For example, she recently secured a dismissal of an employment discrimination charge filed with the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and negotiated an outstanding resolution of a sexual harassment claim filed in New Jersey Superior Court. In addition, Buchan was instrumental in obtaining industry-leading results before the New Jersey Appellate Division, the Third Circuit and the District of New Jersey, e.g., Badrinauth v. Metropolitan Life Ins. (App. Div. Mar. 14, 2011); Anastasia v. Cushman Wakefield, (3d Cir. 2011). Buchan is consistently called upon to supervise teams of more junior lawyers in all phases of litigation, including complex electronic discovery issues and brief writing. Buchan dedicates approximately 100 hours per year to pro bono work, which includes representing and counseling not-for-profit charities (i.e., domestic violence shelters and animal rights organizations) and impoverished and/or incarcerated individuals. Buchan is credited as the firm’s model for balancing the rigors of work with family responsibilities; she does it all while being a mother of four children under the age of five.
