The New Jersey Senate on Monday approved a measure that would, for the first time in nearly three-quarters of a century, give adoptees access to their original birth certificates.
If the bill is enacted, New Jersey will join eight other states that allow such disclosure: Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island and Tennessee.
