A New Jersey senator is pushing legislation that would add women who are pregnant or who have recently given birth to the classes of workers protected by the state’s Law Against Discrimination.

Under the bill, S-2995, introduced on Sept. 30 by Sen. Loretta Weinberg, D-Bergen, employers would be required to make reasonable accommodations, including extended leave, for pregnancy-related conditions and needs — when requested by the woman on the advice of her doctor.
