State lawmakers are inching closer to passing legislation that would allow the state courts to raise filing fees to fund the development of an electronic case filing system and to help fund Legal Services of New Jersey.

In a 5-0-1 vote, the Assembly Judiciary Committee recommended passage of S-2207/A-3308, which allows for the increase in filing fees. The Senate, in a party-line vote, passed the measure in a 23-15 vote in October.
