Nearly 30 law schools have or soon will offer a master's degree for nonlawyers, up from a handful two years ago, proving a good buffer for the schools amid smaller applicant pools of prospective lawyers.

Betsy Hames isn’t a lawyer, but the law permeates nearly every aspect of her job overseeing employee relations in Emory University’s human resources department.
