South Asian Bar Association Swears In Officers

The 2013 Executive Board of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey was sworn in on Sept. 26 at Genova Burns Giantomasi & Webster in Newark.

Walsh Receives Philbrook Award

Kevin Walsh, associate director of the Fair Share Housing Center in Cherry Hill, received the 2012 Mary Philbrook Award from the Women’s Law Caucus at the Rutgers Law School-Camden on Oct. 4. The award, named after the first woman admitted to the New Jersey bar, recognizes the achievements of an advocate for civil rights, social justice and equality.

Free Estate Help Provided to Firefighters

Ballard Spahr and the PHH Mortgage Legal Department volunteered their time and expertise at the “Wills for Heroes” program, held Sept. 21 at the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Military Base in Lakehurst. Dozens of firefighters and first responders were assisted by Ballard attorneys from offices in Philadelphia, Cherry Hill, Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City and Atlanta.

Women and Justice Fellowship Post Is Created

Partners for Women and Justice in Montclair has established the Partner in Hope Fellowship and has chosen Jessica Goldberg as the first fellow. The position will complement the organization’s pro bono representation program in family courts for women who face domestic abuse and similar issues. As a Rutgers Law School-Newark student, Goldberg volunteered with the Domestic Violence Advocacy project and acted as a law guardian with the Child Advocacy Clinic. Upon graduation, she clerked in the Essex County Family Part and then worked for Fox Rothschild in Roseland. The fellowship is supported by The Merck Company Foundation, the estate of E. Franklin Robbins, and Julie and Monty Cerf of Montclair.
