Between May and June 2011, plaintiff Margaret Nordstrom and defendant William “Hank” Lyon campaigned to become the Republican Party candidate in the general election for Morris County freeholder. After the Republican Party primary election, Lyon had received 12,271 votes. Nordstrom received 12,261 votes. A recount resulted in 12,270 votes for Lyon and 12,264 votes for Nordstrom.
