Bernard S. Berkowitz died on July 28, 2024, following a short battle with cancer. He was 94 years old and remained active in the practice of law until a few weeks prior to his death. Berkowitz was admitted to the Bar in New Jersey in 1957. He was a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School, where he served as editor of the law journal, and earned honors as a member of the Order of the Coif.
Berkowitz was a senior partner at Hannoch Weisman, until that firm’s dissolution in 1999. He then, along with a group of Hannoch Weisman colleagues, founded Berkowitz, Lichtstein, Kuritsky, Giasullo & Gross, a successful general practice mid-sized firm, with a boutique specialty in trusts, estates and tax, business and wealth transfer counseling for individuals and family businesses.
