Courts in New Jersey have been told to disregard a bill enacted by the Legislature and signed by the governor that permits plea bargains in drunken driving cases.
The director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, Judge Glenn A. Grant, said in a Feb. 16 memo that a ban on plea bargaining in drunken driving cases remains in effect, even after the Legislature voted to allow such plea bargains.
