With bipartisan support, the U.S. Senate confirmed Jamel Semper as the newest judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Semper, 42, most recently served as an assistant U.S. attorney as the deputy chief of the criminal division in Newark. He joined that office five years ago after serving in both the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. Semper enjoyed a broad base of support throughout the nomination process, culminating in a 54-44 vote on the Senate floor Wednesday.
