Philadelphia attorney Royce W. Smith received a censure from the New Jersey Disciplinary Review Board after miscalculating his fee from a client’s medical malpractice settlement.
Smith and the Office of Attorney Ethics entered into a disciplinary stipulation on the facts in the case, including an unreasonable fee charge under Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5(a), failure to maintain records, R. 1:21-6, failure to cooperate with the OAE, RPC 8.1(b), and negligent misappropriation of client funds, RPC 1.15(a).
