Telemedicine combines the practice of medicine and the use of technology to deliver medical care. All states now permit telemedicine, and a majority of hospitals in the United States use telemedicine in some capacity. Most health insurance providers now cover at least some form of telemedicine, and a majority of states require health insurance companies to reimburse medical care delivered by telemedicine. Use of telemedicine expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this expansion is expected to stay. This will have lasting impacts on medical malpractice litigation.
