Samsung Electronics was hit with a consumer class action Friday in New Jersey District Court over a ‘Game Optimizing Service’ app built into various Samsung smartphones. The lawsuit, filed by Seeger Weiss, claims that the app, which throttles processing speeds to extend battery life, is designed to run faster when it detects benchmarking tools than it does in real world scenarios. As a result, the suit claims Samsung deceives customers by creating a false perception of higher performance. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 2:22-cv-01348, Holland et al v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. et al.
