A former general counsel for Navient Corp. has been disciplined for practicing law while ineligible.

The New Jersey Supreme Court admonished Joel S. Mayer of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on Tuesday based on two instances when he engaged in the unauthorized practice of law. Mayer admitted that he practiced while ineligible in representing a defendant in a criminal case and again while serving as general counsel for Navient, a student loan servicing company based in Wilmington, Delaware.
