A bankruptcy judge in New Jersey denied a bid to dismiss Johnson & Johnson’s Chapter 11 filing, which lawyers representing cancer victims claimed was done in bad faith to resolve thousands of lawsuits filed over its talcum powder products.

In the Feb. 25 ruling, Chief Judge Michael B. Kaplan of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey also extended a stay pausing nearly 38,000 lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson until June 29.
