A group of eight attorneys has departed McCarter & English for Boston-based firm Brown Rudnick, including David Sorin, who joined McCarter seven-plus years ago when the firm absorbed his boutique focused on representing technology startups and the venture-capital entities that fund them.

The group consists of five partners, three of whom will assume leadership roles at Brown Rudnick, as well as three new associates to its global technology practice group. Sorin is now co-chair of Brown Rudnick’s global technology group, Scott Smedresman is now co-practice group leader of the U.S. technology group and Jared Sorin is co-practice group leader of the emerging growth companies group. Joseph Ferino and Matthew Uretsky also join as partners, while Ken Franklin, Morgan Jones and Thomas Rezach join the firm as associates.
