A $6.2 million settlement has been reached in litigation over a viral outbreak that caused multiple fatalities in a rehabilitation center for chronically ill children. The settlement covers 13 children, including seven who died, after a 2018 outbreak of adenovirus at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey.

Since adenovirus, like COVID-19, is transmitted by respiratory droplets, the Wanaque case could be a dress rehearsal of sorts for pending litigation over the spread of the coronavirus in nursing homes.
