When COVID-19 abruptly sent McCarter & English’s attorneys and staff members home to work remotely in spring 2020, the firm’s leaders were faced with keeping track of 700 people who were scattered in all directions.

Mindful of the strains of pandemic life, firm managers maintained frequent contract with employees in the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown, keeping a lookout for anyone struggling with a sick relative or children home from school. That strong focus on the well-being of the McCarter team during the pandemic, while continuing to meet clients’ changing needs, is emblematic of the way Joseph Lubertazzi Jr. led the firm through the pandemic as chairman of the executive committee.
