Does the following sound fair? The State of New Jersey does not have in place a method or law which would allow a process server to serve a legal document in a gated community. This allows for those living in these communities to be above the law. We in the process-serving business, refer to these people as “The Untouchables.”

The authority for the private sector to serve civil process was granted as of Sept. 5, 2000. Although the sheriff still performs a limited amount of the service of process, the private sector handles the bulk. It became obvious to us that residents of gated communities enjoyed privileges that others did not. Those living within the gates could not be served. Protected by guards and others, getting inside to serve a legal document was next to impossible. We had to, and continue to, sneak into gated communities to get the process served.
