President Joe Biden is receiving widespread praise for the racial and gender diversity of his first slate of judicial nominees—which include three Black women for appellate courts and what would be the first Muslim American judge to be appointed to the federal bench.
But his nominees also represent another avenue of diversity: Not all of them were educated at the nation’s most elite law schools. Four of the 11 nominees the White House unveiled Tuesday obtained their law degrees from schools outside the so-called T-14. (The T-14 refers to the schools ranked in the top 14 by U.S. News & World Report.)
