The Supreme Court has disbarred an Irvington, New Jersey, lawyer for knowing misappropriation of client and escrow funds in connection with three real estate transactions. Genia Philip was disbarred Thursday after failing to respond to charges of misappropriation, practicing law while ineligible and conduct involving dishonesty, fraud or deceit.
The lawyer misappropriated thousands in client and escrow funds, using that money to pay amounts owed in other matters and to pay personal expenses such as Uber charges, restaurant bills and purchases at Walmart and Home Depot, the Disciplinary Review Board said.
