The proliferation of Zoom has, in many instances, resulted in increased judicial efficiency. Clients benefit from the use of the platform in terms of the availability of judicial resources and litigation cost savings—especially as litigants no longer need to devote an entire day to a court appearance.

As a mediator and family law attorney who has settled cases for clients and attorneys with mediation for more than 30 years, I have asked myself why the advantages of Zoom have not benefitted mediation. Why hasn’t the use of Zoom resulted in increased efficiency in settling cases in court-sponsored economic mediation? How can mediators and attorneys work together to overcome the limitations of Zoom in mediation to best serve our clients?
