In an effort to build off ongoing juvenile justice reforms, New Jersey’s top law enforcement official issued new statewide directives aimed at limiting unnecessary detention and steering troubled youth toward social or familial support whenever possible.
On Thursday, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal issued Directive 2020-12, which seeks to use diversionary programs to help rehabilitate youth offenders and reduce the state’s juvenile detention population.
