Attorneys from Capehart Scatchard in Mount Laurel hosted a virtual panel discussion on Sept. 29 with law students from Widener University Delaware Law School: “Are You Winning? How to Succeed as an Intern or Entry-Level Attorney.” Workers’ compensation department attorney Christopher Chu served as the moderator for the event, and attorneys Joseph Acosta, Sanmathi (Sanu) Dev and Ashley Mollenthiel served as panelists. The attorneys shared insights on how to succeed as law school students, summer interns and law clerks, and entry-level attorneys. Attorneys also provided guidance stemming from their own personal experience and backgrounds, from the application and interview process to the pressures of finding employment post-graduation, the announcement noted. The event was hosted by Capehart Scatchard’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which Dev leads.

Tipton Speaks on New Jersey Cannabis Referendum

On Oct. 19 Seth Tipton, a partner at Florio Perrucci Steinhardt Cappelli Tipton & Taylor in Phillipsburg and co-chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Cannabis Law Special Committee, was a presenter on NJICLE webcast entitled “The Cannabis Law Referendum, You and Your Clients – What You Need to Know Now.” The CLE class was presented in cooperation with the state bar committee and the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey. New Jersey residents on voting on whether to authorize recreational marijuana for adult use on the Nov. 3 ballot. The question presented by the program for lawyers is: if it passes, what will happen next? Speakers discussed topics surrounding the cannabis referendum and what a legalized adult-use bill would mean to lawyers and their clients. Tipton, along with Josh Bauchner of Ansell Grimm & Aaron, discussed “How did we get here? The Jake Honig Law and the Referendum.” (That law was signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in July 2019). In his practice, Tipton handles cannabis law, corporate law, real estate development and commercial lending. He has represented applicants for medical marijuana permits in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, guiding them on private capital raises, application requirements and real estate. He also counsels clients on formation and compliance for cannabis companies. He is also a member of the Warren County and Northampton County, Pennsylvania, bar associations, and of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association. Tipton earned his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his law degree from Rutgers Law School-Newark.
